Nature and Scope
The YMCA of Oakville is the largest not-for-profit Child Care provider in Oakville. We offer high-quality Infant, Toddler and Preschool Child Care programs for children ages 6 weeks to 3.8 years at 10 locations across Oakville and Before and After School programs for children ages 3.8 to 12 years at 40 locations across Oakville. 

Kitchen Assistant / Child Care Program Support will be responsible for meal and snack preparation for Infant, Toddler and Preschool children, setting up trolleys and kitchen clean up. The successful candidate would ensure that safe food handling practices are observed, and that the dietary needs and allergy restrictions of the children and/or centre are met. The individual will also be responsible for maintaining the organization of the kitchen and keeping accurate and up to date kitchen records. The individual will support the Junior Centre program as needed by covering staff breaks and scheduled documentation time for the Educators. In the afternoon this position requires the individual to support the junior or school age programs as required and be counted in ratio as an educator. 

Location: Oakville Trafalgar and St.Luke YMCA Child Care Centre

Work Schedule : Monday to Friday, rotational shifts – must be available from 7:00 am – 6:00 pm (42.5 hours/week)

Responsibilities
• Serve menu items as needed due to allergies, and dietary restrictions 
• Plan menu following Canada’s Food Guide 
• Prepare daily food of snacks and lunches in a timely manner in order to follow classroom(s) schedule
• Ensures the safe storage of all food items
• Order and purchase food required for the weekly menu
• Ensures compliance with the YMCA policies and procedure and the Child Care and Early Years Act
• Ensures compliance with the Health Protection and Promotion Act
• Dedicated to supporting the healthy growth and development of children that promotes a lifelong appreciation for learning
• Ensures positive, professional communication with families on an ongoing basis, and responds promptly to all requests, queries and concerns
• Develops and maintains positive relationships with other YMCA staff and school personnel
• Collaborates with other YMCA staff members and volunteers to support effective teamwork
• Participates in professional development including staff meetings, workshops and training
• Completes administration tasks as required

Essential Requirements
• High School Diploma – 18 years or older
• Experience working with children and families
• Experience preparing food, including preparing for children with allergies, and an awareness of religious and alternative dietary restrictions
• Effective teamwork and time management skills
• Strong professional relationship and communication skills
• Current medical (record of necessary immunizations)
• Safe Food Handling Certificate
• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR - Level C
• Clear criminal reference check which includes vulnerable sector screening

Desirable
• College Diploma in a related field
• Previous experience as a cook or childcare worker
