Based at our Edmonton plant location, the Journeyperson Welder is responsible for the fabrication and welding of various materials including steel, aluminum and stainless steel. Ensuring safety and preventative measures on plant tools and site equipment are also important maintenance tasks of the role.

 

Your own transportation to the workplace is required due to lack of public transportation available. The Edmonton Plant is located just north of Sherwood Park. As a part of West Coast Reduction Ltd.'s hiring process, we request applicants to complete a background check for employment purposes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set up, adjust, and dismantle welding equipment as needed
  • Operate welding equipment and tools in a safe and efficient manner
  • Bend and weld materials such as steel, aluminium, and stainless steel
  • Weld and fabricate plant equipment and fleet equipment, as instructed
  • Assist with the maintenance of all machinery and equipment including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, making modifications, and fabrication
  • Safely operate mobile equipment and hoisting devices when necessary
  • Maintain a clean, tidy work site which includes daily housekeeping of shop areas
  • Mentor Apprentices through their professional development
  • Perform shift work based on company business needs which evolve and change in response to customer demands
  • Work overtime as instructed to ensure minimal downtime of facilities as per Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Adhere to the company Code of Conduct and all West Coast Reduction Ltd. policies
  • Foster a positive team and company culture by ensuring treatment of others is respectful and aligned with company values
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Possession of a valid Alberta Journeyperson Welder Certificate or interprovincial Welder Red Seal Certification
  • 2-3 years of welding experience in a similar environment or industry preferred
  • Hold a valid “B” pressure certificate would be an asset
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, with strong communication skills
  • Ability to read or interpret diagrams, schematic drawings and manuals to determine work procedures
  • Computer literate with experience utilizing CMMS software
  • Ability to frequently move, carry, lift, push and pull equipment up to 50 lbs without assistance and occasionally greater with assistance
  • Perform repetitive motions including bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing and reaching overhead above the shoulders daily
  • Adaptable to adverse conditions including confined space, heights, weather, odours, and animal by-products
