Toronto Animal Health Partners is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician to lead the Emergency department. The ER Lead RVT is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to the RVTs and ACAs, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, client communication, and team collaboration. This individual will oversee the day-to-day operations of the ER department, working closely with veterinarians, support staff, and management to optimize efficiency and maintain a positive work environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

Qualifications:  

  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) certification  
  • Good standing with their provincial regulatory association   
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a veterinary emergency setting.  
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills  
  • Excellent communication and client service skills.  
  • Ability to multitask and work in a faced paced environment.  
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently. 

 

Key Responsibilities:  

Leadership: Provide leadership and mentorship to ER support staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment. Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to excellence in patient care.  

Patient Care: Ensure the highest standards of patient care are maintained. Monitor patient flow, prioritize cases, and coordinate with veterinarians to provide timely and effective treatment.  

Team Collaboration: Collaborate with Head of service, veterinarians, support staff, and management to optimize workflow, resolve conflicts, and implement process improvements. Foster a culture of open communication, mutual respect, and continuous learning.  

Training and Development: Facilitate training and continuing education opportunities for ER RVTs & ACAs to enhance their skills and knowledge. Provide constructive feedback and support professional growth and development.  

Quality Assurance: Work closely with the Head RVT and Head of service to oversee the implementation of new SOPs/ protocols to ensure compliance with standards of care, safety regulations, and hospital policies.  

Operations: Maintain readiness to respond to emergency situations, including coordinating triage, stabilizing patients, and assisting with emergency procedures as needed. Ensure that all necessary equipment and supplies are readily available and in working order. Optimizing workflow and coordinating staff lunch breaks.  

Administrative Duties: Perform administrative tasks such as effective scheduling, inventory management, and documentation to support the efficient operation of the ER department.
