We are looking for an experienced Inclusive Education (Learning Support) teacher specializing in mathematics to join our Morven Campus (Grades 8-12). The ideal candidate will be dynamic, collaborative, inspirational, and tech-savvy, with expertise in mathematics and experience working with students diagnosed with learning differences. They should demonstrate the ability to contribute to various aspects of school life, including coaching and extra-curricular responsibilities. This is a Permanent Full-Time position starting August 23, 2024.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted support for student learning through individual and small-group intervention (mainly focusing on math support)
  • Instruct and co-teach several math classes
  • Advocate for inclusive pedagogical approaches to ensure all students can grasp curriculum competencies
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Inclusive Education and Math department to create innovative lessons and units
  • Ensure curriculum delivery aligns with the BC Ministry guidelines and requirements
  • Track, analyze, and communicate formative and summative assessment results
  • Develop and oversee detailed Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and SLPs (Student Learning Plans) to set and achieve student goals and ensure implementation in the classroom
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure that students receive appropriate accommodations and support
  • Regularly evaluate the efficacy of learning support interventions and adjust them as necessary
  • Use various student achievement data to guide learning support practices and assessments
  • Offer additional tutorial assistance for students beyond regular classroom hours

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education with training in teaching students with learning differences
  • Experience teaching the BC Ministry mathematics curriculum at the secondary level
  • Certified (or in the process of becoming certified) by the British Columbia Ministry of Education
  • Canadian residency and legally entitled to work in Canada

Preferred Qualifications and Experiences

  • Master’s Degree or specific coursework in Special Education and Mathematics
  • Knowledge of UDL practices and differentiated learning approaches
  • Experience in developing, writing and implementing IEP goals
  • Experience teaching Grade 8 -12 level
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Technology savvy. The ability to teach students how to use assistive technologies to support their independence and learning

The current faculty grid salary range for this position is $73,845 to $109,969 based on years of experience and a Bachelor of Education. Faculty with a Masters will be paid at a higher range.
